What is a preparatory department?

What does the program include?

A comprehensive 10-month program: language, professional foundation, core subjects, and university admission

Classes run from October 2026 to August 2027 in groups of 10-15 students.
From October to January, you will study only the Russian language.
Starting in January, core subjects are added to the language classes:
✓ Chemistry;
✓ Biology;
✓ Physics;
✓ History of Russia.
All classes are taught in Russian to fully prepare you for university studies.

Who can apply?

What will you get?

No! Entrance exams are not required for admission to the Preparatory Faculty.
Foreign students aged 18 to 24 with a high school diploma or a diploma of secondary vocational education.

A Certificate of Completion of the Preparatory Faculty
All students of the Preparatory Faculty are provided with a place in the dormitory.
Upon successful completion of your studies, we will issue you a Certificate of Completion of the SPbGUVM Preparatory Faculty.
To successfully complete the course, you need to:
✓ Attend at least 70% of classes
✓ Pass the final assessment

What documents are needed

Your high school diploma or vocational diploma + translation into Russian
Russian translation of the passport (scanned)
Passport of a foreign citizen (scanned)
Transcript of records (grades) + translation into Russian (scanned)
The passport must be valid for at least 18 months from the start of the studies
Certified by a notary or by the consular department of the embassy (scanned).

Buy your tickets to Russia.
Very important: Send your flight details (arrival date and time) to the university email (moskovenko@spbguvm.ru, v.sorokina@spbguvm.ru, i.zemko@spbguvm.ru) at least 10 days before your arrival so we can arrange your pickup!
After payment, we will send you an official invitation letter for your visa application. Once you receive your visa, send a scanned copy to our email.
We will check your documents, send you a confirmation of your approval, and the study contract. You will just need to pay the tuition fee using the bank details provided in the contract.

Your migration registration is an important document that must always be up-to-date. In some situations, it is automatically canceled (for example, when leaving Russia or moving to another place). To avoid violating migration laws, carefully review the table below and follow the instructions. Department
of International Relations of SPbSUVM wishes to draw your attention to the fact that this migration registration DOES NOT CONSTITUTE PERMANENT REGISTRATION.

You stayed at a hotel\hostel in Saint Petersburg for 1 night or more
Please note that any hotel reregisters you at its address the moment you check-in.
You need to obtain the original registration document from the hotel receptionist. The day after departure from the hotel you must come to the Department of International Relations and bring your passport and hotel registration in order to obtain a new one.

Treatment in the hospital in Saint Petersburg (or in any other city in Russia)
Please note that hospitals always reregister foreign citizens for the duration of their treatment period and cancel the previous registration.
The day after you are discharged from the hospital you must come to the Department of International Relations and bring your migration card, passport and the documents from the hospital in order to obtain a new registration.

Departure from the Russian Federation (crossing borders of Russia)
Before departure come to the Department of International Relations and submit an application for departure from Russia.
The day after your arrival in Saint Petersburg you must come to the Department of International Relations and bring your new migration card and passport in order to obtain a new registration. Please note that your registration is automatically canceled as soon as you cross the borders of the Russian Federation.

If you plan living at a private address in another city in Russia for more than 7 working days
The host of the house register you through an MFC (Multifunctional Functional center) and provide you with the original document the day after your arrival. In Saint Petersburg, you must come to the Department of International Relations and bring your passport and registration in order to obtain a new one
Travel to another city in Russia
Before departure come to the Department of International Relations and submit an application for departure
If you plan living in a hotel, hostel and so on…
When you leave a hotel/hostel, obtain the registration document from the hotel receptionist. The day after your arrival in Saint Petersburg you must come to the Department of International Relations and bring your hotel registration and passport in order to obtain a new one.
7 days before your planned departure from the dormitory, inform the Department of International Relations by submitting an application with the date of termination of your dormitory contract
Within the next 7 working days after termination of your dormitory contract, register yourself at your new address through the host of the house.
Within 2 working days after getting your registration, bring a copy of the new document to the Department of International Relations.
